IC:Character name: Raquel Ervin AKA Rocket
Fandom: Young Justice
Timeline: Post Episode 26
Age: 15
~*Magical*~ abilities and strengths: First, it should be noted that Raquel herself has no abilities beyond that of a normal teenage girl and all the powers she displays as Rocket come from her belt. Using the belt, Raquel is capable of flight and has the ability to create bubbles of kinetic energy. These bubbles can either be formed in a vacant space or formed around a person (or object) to encompass said person. These bubbles feed off of kinetic energy and thus grow stronger when force is exerted on them, but for only as long as Raquel concentrates. As such these bubbles are often used in a shield like manner.
How would they use their abilities?: To kick bad guy butt and beat traffic
Appearance: Raquel is a dark skinned African American teenager who keeps her black hair cropped very short in the back and slightly longer in the front. She has dark brown eyes and is tall for her age. She has a fit, slightly muscular body with noticeable curves. Raquel is rarely seen without her piercings, three silver hoops in her right ear and two similar hoops in the left. On either side, one of the piercings is at the lowest part of the ear and the other at the mid point up. On her right side, the third piercing is at the top of the ear.
During the series, Raquel is seen wearing one of two outfits. Her civilian outfit consists of jeans, a white turtle neck, and an indigo fur trimmed coat with brown boots. Her other outfit, which is her Rocket costume, consists of a brown jump suit that she leaves undone to the waist. Underneath the suit she wears a dark blue high necked top that comes up around her head with the face cut out. Along with this she wears her red belt that gives her powers, brown gloves and dark boots.
Background/Personality: Background
Raquel's universe is one where multiple planets support lifeforms, magic exists, and science grants some individuals powers that normal humans could only dream of. Decades before her birth, those who were given powers formed a team of heroes known as the Justice Society of America. While the team only lasted around a decade, it gave way to the idea of heroes working together and was the model the Justice League would be based on. The Justice League, founded in Raquel's early childhood, was a world wide network of the most prominent heroes. Starting with one of the League's founder's, Batman, several heroes would start to take on young sidekicks to aid them in the fight against crime.
Some of these side-kicks would be granted certain privileges by the League, in thanks for their service. After rescuing a clone of the world's most famous hero from an organization called Cadmus, some of these sidekicks would be formed into their own team. The team was watched over by the League, administrated by Batman, and became a secret ops sort of group to be utilized by Earth's heroes whenever needed. Three original sidekicks of League members (Robin, Kid Flash, and Aqualad) and the rescued clone now known as Super Boy, and a cousin of League member Martian Man Hunter, formed the first incarnation of the team. Speedy, the sidekick of League member Green Arrow, was offered a position with the team but refused. The team was later joined by Green Arrow's new sidekick, Artemis, and Zantana, the daughter of yet another League member.
The team was notably involved with trying to uncover an alliance between some of the world's most feared villains, an investigation that would eventually lead them to suspect there was a mole within their midst. As it would turn out the mole was Speedy, now going by Red Arrow, who was actually a programmed clone of the original sidekick. Speedy's involvement with the dark side eventually lead to villains infiltrating the League's base and getting control over the heroes by used of mind control tech.
And how does Raquel fit into this? First we need to back up a little.
Years before the team was formed, Raquel was born to the rougher side of Dakota City. Raquel grew up idolizing the world's heroes and their teenage sidekicks. She was so inspired by the sidekicks, that when opportunity came knocking for her to become a hero in her teen years, she answered the call. In May of 2010, Raquel met Arnus aka Augustus Freeman, an alien with incredible powers who had taken up a civilian life on Earth. Upon finding out his abilities, Raquel pushed Arnus into becoming Dakota City's greatest hero, Icon. She took up mantle as his sidekick, Rocket, and used a belt of alien origin to give herself super powers.
For several months, Rocket and Icon cleaned up the streets of their hometown and aided where they could when League threats came close to their home. On one occasion they saved the city from an attack of living plants that was kick started by the villain alliance. On another, Raquel protected Dakota on her own after a spell temporally rid the planet of adults. These incidents did not escape the notice of the Justice League. When the League felt it was time to bring in new members, Icon and Rocket were among those considered. The female members of the League were especially impressed with Rocket. While Icon was officially accepted into the League, it was in part thanks to this impression that Rocket was chosen to join the sidekicks team.
A few days before New Year's, Raquel first met her new teammates to watch the official induction ceremony for the new League members. The team tried to fill her in about their history but had to take off for a mission before anyone could fully brief her about the mole situation, the information they had on the villains, or the interpersonal struggles of the team. She would aide them on their mission that would give the team the possession of a case full of biotech that would be turned over to the League. After the trade off, Raquel was informed about the team's suspicions of a mole and got swept into the dirty laundry various team mermbers decided to air. She took the sudden dump of personal information fairly well, and when a mission came up to help stop several villains who were blackmailing members of the team, she rushed off to help. The mission was a success but the team's celebrating came too earlier. Off at the League's headquarters, Red Arrow's programming had finally kicked in and he used the biotech confiscated by the team to put all the League members under mind control.
Mind controlled!Batman and Red Tornado, a robotic hero who acted as the team's den mother, came to the team's headquarters to tell them that Red Arrow was the mole and revealed his true origins. While this information was true, it was a decoy to keep the kids busy so they wouldn't figure out that the League was under control. Red Tornado then attempted to infect the team with the biotech but managed to override the programming long enough for the gang to upload him into a new robot. He was able to explain what had happened to the League and help them escape the sudden attacks by League members. They also picked up Red Arrow and together they all went to try to save the League. They used some of their scientific connections to find a way to cure the heroes of the biotech and hatched a plan to stealth attack the League. Their plan ended up going awry and the team became involved in an all out battle with some of Earth's greatest warriors. Rocket spent most of the fight locked in battle with Wonder Woman, trying to keep her trapped until the others were free enough to help her take down one of the League's power houses.
Though it was a hard fight, the team eventually won and cured all the League. The villains fled before the sidekicks could take them on, but the League was just happy enough to have the ordeal over. As they wrapped up, the clock struck midnight and a New Year was ushered in. Most of the team paired off for the traditional kiss and Raquel was not one to miss out on the fun. She kissed Aqualad, declaring she was getting to like being part of the team.
Personality
Raquel is a straight forward sort of person who isn't afraid to speak her mind or go after what she wants. She's driven, forceful, and snappish, but possesses a caring and passionate heart. Despite how others feel about the role of a sidekick, she's proud of her title and work, and quick to defend her position.
Raquel is a very opinionated person and offers that opinion freely to whomever is around, such as when she tells the team exactly what she thinks of being kept out of the induction ceremony. She doesn't wait for someone to prompt her or give her permission to speak, she just dives right into to what she wants to say. She tends to be straight forward in her interactions, saying what she means and doesn't waste time on vagueness. This extends into her readiness to jump to the verbal defensive when she believes someone is wrong, such as when the other teammates speak out against being called sidekicks.
She tends to go after exactly what she wants, without inhibitions of shyness or doubt. She's incredibly confident in herself but tries to keep herself from being too cocky when on the battle field. She's very driven and focused on her goals. Her actions can come across as someone who's a bit too sure of herself because of her tendency to quickly act on her desires. Because of this she can be fairly impatient and gets easily annoyed when she can't go after what she wants. She also tends to get forceful once she's got an idea in her head. For example, she pushed Icon into being a hero and into joining the League despite his reluctance. This also shows how her drive isn't always just about herself, she also wants to push others into what she thinks will be a better life for them.
She can be a bit of a flirt, which ties into her personality traits of being straightforward and a 'go get-er'. She's not embarrassed by expressing her feelings or attractions for others and tends to causally flirt with anyone whom she deems acceptable enough. She has no qualms with being somewhat physical with the ones she flirts with, even if she's only known them a short amount of time. For example she kissed Aqualad after only truly knowing him a few days. She doesn't take this type of flirting very seriously and tends to keep her relations causal.
As stated above, Raquel is very proud of being a sidekick. Unlike many other sidekicks, who find the title demeaning, she happily bears the weight of the name. She sees the role as an inspiration to others and takes satisfaction in being the one to have supported Icon so far. While she does have some hopes of joining the League someday as a hero, she's fine with her current station in life.
Raquel isn't afraid of asking for information or help. She's confident enough in herself to know asking doesn't demean her, and humble enough to know she can't handle everything on her own. She can take orders well on the battlefield, easily submitting to Aqualad's commands during missions, and she tends to be a fair team-player. She doesn't try hog the spotlight, but instead does her best to provide support for others to make fights go more successfully.
She's also a caring, moral person. She wants to help people and cares about the welfare of others. She's a friendly girl who gets along easily with others. It doesn't take long for her to warm up to people. While she can be sassy and forthright, she doesn't actively try to cause any friction. Theses are qualities that help her work well as a hero.

1st person sample: I can do secret sharing drama bombs. I can do plants taking over my city and I can do this whole destruction of the planet thing. But I draw the line right here.
[The screen is covered in layers of pink tulle for several moments, before she pulls back enough to show the object at hand is a fluffy tutu.] I don't
do tutus. Whichever one of you thought it'd be funny to sign me up for this ballerina job, had better start looking for peace with their maker because I ain't going easy when I find you. And don't think I won't.
3rd person sample:Raquel sighed and stretched as she walked back from work, taking her time as she navigated the ship. She hadn't hesitated to start working after settling in on the
Thor. Anything that could help get back her home sooner was a good thing and Raquel had never been one to just sit around when there was something to be done. Besides, working sounded a lot better than just sitting around all day, dwelling on the events that brought her and the others here. That was something to at least be grateful for. Having others from home meant she didn't have to go through it alone.
Everyone else had been here much longer than she had and had been through more than she had. Raquel had only been here a few weeks and she already had enough of the stress. She felt it was time to relax and thought the others must feel the same. She smiled to herself; that wasn't such a bad idea. It wouldn't be too hard to set up something fun on the ship and get a few people to come. And if she made it an open invitation she could get familiar with a few of the faces hanging around. She rustled around in her bag for a moment for her Guide, putting on a cheerful expression to talk to the network.
